My Blog's Personality Type

Well, it isn't very glamorous or creative sounding. But I suppose this is an appropriate description of my blog's personality?

ISTJ - The Duty Fulfillers

The responsible and hardworking type. They are especially attuned to the details of life and are careful about getting the facts right. Conservative by nature they are often reluctant to take any risks whatsoever.

The Duty Fulfillers are happy to be let alone and to be able to work in their own pace. They know what they have to do and how to do it.

I don't think, however, that this is indicative of my personality. Well, maybe the responsible and hardworking part. ;)

(It's been a long time since I've taken a Myers-Brigg sort of test. I usually come out somewhere on the E scale.)

Check out your own blog's writing style at Typealyzer.

And please, don't leave my blog alone. It likes company. And comments. And conversation.

Update: Ken Allan (Blogger in Middle-earth) has written up Typealyzer in great detail and got some comments from the tool's founder, Mattias Östmar, who writes:

Typealyzer is a way for us to test our hypotheses that it is possible to analyze the persona of a person by teaching a classifier to identify word usage among different personality types. An individual can (and normally DO) make use of different personas, i.e. social roles in different situations.

Be sure to read Ken's posts on Typealyzer and watch the video of Mattias.

It's funny.

My ID blog matches my own MBTI test (INTJ).

My general blog is almost the opposite of my personality (ESTP).

My Greek blogs show up as ESTP but I think that's because the parser is only built for english.

My blog is ISTP. I think that's fairly accurate, especially the independent part.

Ok, but just since your blog likes company :). I don't put much faith in MBTI (cf my general approach to styles), but my blog seems to match my MBTI score (INTJ). Of course, we don't get any detail into how Typealyzer works, so it's even more suspect! But fun...

Interesting that everyone's ID blogs so far clock in as "I"s. Not that we actually put any faith in these things, right Clark? Supposedly it analyzes text -- probably looking for 'indicative' words? Who knows.

Kia ora Cammy,

Mattias Östmar, the originator of Typealyser got back to my post on the analysis of bloggers in my commentsphere. He made some interesting comments on the function of Typealiser. My follow-up was on his video explaining what Typealyser is designed to do. It isn't really about the individual's personality, as you may find out.

I was pretty curious about what metrics the tool used to come up with the MBTI reading. Quickly dug around their links and didn't find anything that explained how they performed the measurement. All I could discern is that it looks at whatever appears on the link you provide.

My recent writing is ISTP - The mechanic. November 2008 is ISTJ (like yours). June 2008 is INTJ.

My blog must be schizo.....

@Ken -- Great stuff. Thanks for delving so deep into this. Really interesting!

@Wendy and @Clark -- Be sure to read Ken's posts and watch the video with Mattias Ostmar to learn more about the thinking that went into this.

Tēnā koe Cammy!

Cool that you found these links useful if not interesting. At the time when I did the studies I was really looking for a distribution, which I didn't get.

Then it became clearer when Mattias Östmar contacted me and confirmed some of my suspicions about what it was actually doing.

Okay, I'm stunned there are so many INTJ's here since as a general rule, INTJ's are only about 5% of population (I'm guessing here).

I'm an INTJ and it says my blog is an ESTP. Given we don't know how it works, I'm going to dismiss that information as a bit of fun.

@ Daisy -- Perhaps so many INTJ because we're writing about the process and mechanics of Instructional Design? The tool looks at your blog's language and says it may not match your personality.

Be sure to check out the post and videos that Ken Allan (aka Blogger in Middle Earth above) has posted on his blog. I think it provides more insight into how this tool works.

As Mattias Östmar, the originator of Typealyser, explained to me, the application does not assess the personality type of the blogger. It is a persona of the blog that Typealyser measures. There is a distinct difference.

I am an INTJ too but the Typealyser put my blog as a INTP. If you look at the analysis I did of a range of bloggers from my own commentsphere, you'll see that I have a preference for thinkers, scientists and mechanics when it comes to blogs.

My hunch is that the persona type of writing INTJ, which is the scientist, is considerably more prevalent than INTJ personalities. I can understand this, since writing style is something that can be acquired with practice.

This was fun! My blog scored a ISTP. I have scored 2x IRL and 1x on Facebook as ENFP on MBTI. My blog and I can barely communicate with each other. ;-)
